Chicken + Sausage + Shrimp = Pornburger

When the chicken was placed next to the pan with the sausage, it was love at first sight.  Later on, the shrimp got into the game and that is how the tastiest love triangle was created.  This is food porn.

The inspiration for this burger came from my friend, chef Vasilis Sporos.  Last week, I ate Gumbo soup, that he made himself (a signature recipe of Cajun cuisine) and I went nuts!  The chicken, the sausage and the shrimp, seasoned to perfection, were such a perfect combination, that they immediately transformed themselves into a juicy burger in my mind.  

So, I sauteed them with lots of seasonings, sparked it up with extra hot paprika and I piled them up on a fluffy, toasted bun.  The caramelized onions did their magic, and so did the red peppers that I sauteed in the same pan.  My demanding friends in the living room, couldn’t take the tantalizing smells any longer. So I quickly made some MAGGI mashed potatoes and I mixed it in with mouthwatering melted cheddar cheese and crispy bacon.  Needless to say I didn’t even have time to set the plates on the table…

Cajun PornBurger

Portions: 4,  Prep time: 10’, Cooking Time: 40’

Ingredients for the burger

  • 4 brioche buns for burgers
  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 2 village sausages
  • ½  kilo of frozen shrimp
  • 1 red pepper
  • BBQ sauce
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sweet paprika, hot paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme

Ingredients for the caramelized onions

  • 2 onions
  • White balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Ingredients for mashed potatoes with Cheddar and bacon

  • 1 packet of MAGGI mashed dried potatoes
  • ½  liter of water
  • 200ml of fresh milk
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Melted cheddar
  • 8 slices of bacon

Directions

1. Begin by caramelizing the onions. Thinly slice them and saute them in a pan with hot olive oil.  As soon as they become transparent and change colour, add salt and pepper, sprinkle with sugar and stir well.  Add ⅓ cup of balsamic vinegar and allow them to caramelize for around 30 minutes. Set aside.

2. Continue with the burgers. Put a large non-stick frypan on the stove and heat up well.

3. Cut the chicken in very thin slices ( or ask your butcher to do it for you ).

4. Place the sausages in the pan and saute them for 2-3 minutes. Add the chicken and the peeled shrimp. season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with seasonings.

5. Saute for 7-8 minutes and transfer them on a plate. In the same pan, saute the peppers for 3-4 minutes.

6. Until all this is done, make the mashed potatoes. Add the milk in a pot along with the water and let them heat up well ( do not boil).

7. Remove from the heat and add the MAGGI mashed potatoes. Season with salt and pepper, and mix in the butter while stirring well.

8. Meanwhile thinly slice the bacon and saute it in the non-stick frypan.

9. Add cheddar and bacon to the mashed potatoes and give it a good mixing.

10. Make the burger by spreading BBQ sauce on the bottom bun and creating layers, with the sausages, the chicken, the shrimp, the caramelized onions and the peppers.

Serve. Grab the burger with your hands, cool the spicy taste with the mashed potatoes. Enjoy.
