As you’re strolling the streets of Kolonaki….. Pop into Sam’s
You’re in Kolonaki. You’re rushing to get everything done in time, hopping from store to store. You grab a coffee to go, trying to steal a few sips while carrying your shopping bags that are starting to weigh a ton! You’re going uphills, downhills, your tongue is hanging out, you’re out of breath. You say hello to some, to others you hide behind the telephone pole. Ok, now you desperately need a break. A crispy, refreshing salad with a cocktail that’ll sooth your aching senses. Don’t even think about it! Turn onto Tsakalof street, find number 30 and take a seat at Sam’s! You’ll thank me.

No pretentiousness here. At Sam’s you can just relax and be yourself. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy your coffee while admiring the artwork on the walls ( authentic pieces by Eggonopoulos, Tsarouxis and even Akrithakis ). You can munch on a light snack in between running errands, or have an amazing cocktail that Sam, one of the most experienced and well known barmen in Athens, prepares for you. Just don’t forget to pet the store’s most adorable mascot, Ruf, the Golden Retriever!
I visited this place one afternoon, on a very difficult ,crazy busy afternoon of mine, and I left recharged, full of energy! Its relaxed atmosphere and delicious food completely changed my tired, hungry, grouchy mood. I tried a little bit of everything and I enjoyed every dish! The usually indifferent mozzarella and cherry tomato salad was scrumptious, and I couldn’t stop dipping the crispy breads that came along with it, in the olive oil. The pizza had a thin crust, just the way I like it, with fresh toppings. The sea bass carpaccio was a perfect entree for the tagliata. It was served exactly how I asked for it, rare and with a refreshing salad on the side. I was in food heaven.
The desserts on the menu include panna cotta and affogato, but the big surprise is Sam’s dessert specialty, which is definitely worth a try, especially if you love mangos! And the cherry on top – the prices! Very reasonable and very fair!
Sam’s is a MUST, next time you go strolling up and down the streets of Kolonaki!
